Our feelings are like the weather. Always changing and always passing. They are not us but a part of us. A source of information. 

Feelings like to be acknowledged. We can observe and notice our feelings just like we do the weather.

Gentle non judgemental acknowledgement to ourselves, our children/teens or children/teens on our care supports development of self awareness and is part of our self care.

This analogy has helped many parents I work with to boundary screen time realistically.

So much is said about screen time. There are lots of pros and cons. But like it or not it's part of our lifestyle. 

Like sugar, it's not easily avoided but moderation and balance are key. 

Teaching our children, reflecting with our teenagers and reminding ourselves about the importance of not over consuming is part of the process. 

Remembering that it's normal that:
⭐someday we will be super good
⭐some days we might over do it
⭐Some days we might just need it
⭐Some days we just have to say no and try something else. 

Becoming aware and noticing when we are over doing it so that we can pull back is a skill to learn. 

This can make screen time a manageable and healthy dose in our day to day.

Showing gladness to see you child, a pupil and indeed a colleague is a simple act of kindness that goes a long way.

Reorganising a drawer
Knitting
Art project
A walk/run
A jigsaw
Play dough creations

⭐Something with a beginning ,middle and end that you can feel like you a accomplished  something you wanted to. 

⭐Something that gives your mind space to breathe and rest. 

⭐Something simple but refreshing

⭐Encourage/model this to your kids. Especially all those bigger kids out there preparing for exams and feeling overwhelmed.

RELAX KIDS Relax Kids classes offer children a fu RELAX KIDS

Relax Kids classes offer children a fun,  gentle and nurturing space to learn about their emotions and practice tools to support wellbeing, to learn regulation strategies and to feel good.

Lots of movement, fun, self expression, creativity and of course calming activities all while learning about emotions and social skills. 

6 weeks term starting the 26th Jan and excluding the 16th Feb (midterm) costs 90 euro per child.

P L A Y We have been enjoying this simple connect P L A Y

We have been enjoying this simple connecting game intermittently the last week. Inspired by @joannafortune  book I introduced this idea to my 5 and 2 year old. We only play it for a few moments at a time with one of us randomly calling out "jelly" in a particular voice. It's a great car game after school to create an easy connection and would work fantastically in classrooms too. 

It provides: 
⭐A moment of shared connection
⭐A shared smile/ laugh and shared joy
⭐Co-regulation 
⭐A wake up for brain ( so hard to not just repeat the word jelly instead of saying ice cream)
⭐Eye contact
⭐Simple opportunity to be playful and release tension

I have ran many versions of therapeutic groups ove I have ran many versions of therapeutic groups over the years, tweeking them the needs of the group and setting. 
However, I enjoy returning to my Relax Kids training as it's a lovely format that suits children in general to support them to learn about themselves, practice social skills and practice emotional wellbeing strategies in a fun, gentle and safe space. 
When it comes to emotional development and wellbeing it's an active process that needs continual nurturing. 

Classes coming to Tralee, Co. Kerry the end of January.

Self awareness is key to connection. At a basic Self awareness is key to connection. 

At a basic level this starts with emotional literacy, teaching children from an early stage the language of emotion and helping them to connect the words to their felt experience. 

This is done gradually over time. Supporting children's emotional literacy and development is of great importance because it paves the way to  connection which is a cornerstone of mental wellbeing.

When parents contact me for therapy for their chil When parents contact me for therapy for their child or teenager, they take the chance to be vulnerable and ask for help. That takes courage. I always remind parents of this. It equally takes bravery for that child or teenager to come to the first session. 

It truly astounds me how much more parents (or anyone of any age and at any stage) are willing to seek therapeutic support now. Even though it is more common now to go to therapy, it still takes courage.

If you are feeling nervous or daunted asking for help, know that the first step is usual the hardest. It is normal to feel a but scared, asking for help is not always easy but it can be done.
